15 August 2024 August 15 is a significant day for the Marists as it marks the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a central figure in Marist spirituality. The global Marist Family, including Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Missionary Sisters, and Laity, honors this day with special Masses, gatherings, and spiritual retreats, reflecting their deep devotion to Mary and their collective mission. Over the years, this date has been marked by important milestones such as the approval of the Society of Mary by Pope Gregory XVI in 1836, Marcellin Champagnat's reflections on Marian devotion, and François Perroton's vow to missionary work. Even in challenging times, like the virtual gathering of Marist Laity in Australia in 2020, the Feast of the Assumption remains a unifying celebration of Marian devotion and the Marist mission. |

14 August 2024 We reflect on our vocation today, we are reminded of the significant milestones in Marist history that inspire us to discern God's call. On August 14, 1830, Lay Marists in Belley, France, established a lay confraternity, embracing Jean-Claude Colin's vision of extending the Marist mission beyond the clergy. On the same date in 1833, Marcellin Champagnat sent the first Marist Brothers to La Valla-en-Gier, marking the start of their educational mission. In 1842, Lay Marists in Lyon organized a pilgrimage to Fourvière, demonstrating their commitment to the Marist charism. François Perroton embarked on her missionary journey to Oceania in 1845, leading to the founding of the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary. Jeanne-Marie Chavoin, in 1851, reflected on the perseverance needed in establishing the Marist Sisters. Lastly, in 1873, John-Claude Colin urged the Marists to maintain unity and focus as he neared the end of his leadership. Let us pray, drawing strength from these examples to live our own vocations with dedication and faith. |

08 March 2024 In this blog, the author emphasizes the importance of family prayer, not as a duty to God but as a necessity for our spiritual growth and connection with Him. Drawing on biblical teachings, they underscore the significance of praying with the right intentions and the transformative power of submitting to God's will over our own. The blog highlights how salvation and spiritual growth are fostered through relationships—mirroring the Holy Family's example—and how prayer serves as a journey that brings families closer to God and each other. The author reflects on the challenges modern families face in finding time for prayer amidst busy schedules, advocating for intentional leadership within the family to cultivate a regular prayer life. Ultimately, the piece calls for a deeper engagement with prayer as a means to experience God's love and mercy in our relationships, urging families to become beacons of hope and vessels of divine mercy by living out their faith together. |

He explains that while thoughts stay within ourselves, prayers are directed towards someone else, requiring an address like a letter or email. Prayers are oriented towards someone beyond ourselves, such as God, and as Catholics, they often begin with the sign of the cross, addressing the prayer to the entirety of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. |

28 May 2023 In this sermon, the speaker reflects on a passage about fear. The speaker emphasizes the importance of obeying God and following His lead, even in the face of danger and uncertainty. They mention that God's protection works when we are moving forward and obeying Him, and that even in difficult times or painful experiences, God is using them to shield and protect us. The speaker refers to a fairy tale by George MacDonald to illustrate the concept of following God's path, even when it seems uncertain or challenging. They also discuss the idea of locating our glory and security in finite things, which can lead to anxiety and fear. Instead, they encourage the audience to find their glory in God and His approval. The speaker suggests that through prayer and confidence in God's forgiveness and sacrifice, we can find assurance and overcome our fears. |

26 January 2023 Script by Marist Father Edwin Keel sm. Setting: But Jesus is also experiencing great opposition from his enemies. 25 January 2023 Script by Marist Father Edwin Keel sm. The scene is a wedding feast (which, in those days, lasted sevendays!) in a small country village, undoubtedly involving all thepeople of the village as well as many guests. This incident occurs at the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus, before the beginning of the Church. Nevertheless, it tells us something about Mary's presence in the Church, and about the effect her presence has. As she will be present at the birth of the Church (at Calvary and at Pentecost) Mary is present here at the 'birth' of Jesus’ mission as Messiah. |

13 December 2022 Our world today shy’s away from religion and spirituality. Stating “Religion is a personal thingâ€, “don’t mix religion and politics†and “my beliefs are my own businessâ€. Religion has become a not so cool commodity and is largely rejected by secular culture. But for a Christian, from a Christian perspective as a person who believes in the infinite love some call “Godâ€, where does that leave us? Should we abandon sharing our deep inspiration? Quiet the opposite. But initially, we should use not secular values to combat this. We will lose this argument. Secular culture which values things like logic, science, material, and objectivity. Saint Francis of Assisi would say “preach the Gospel and where necessary use wordsâ€. We are called to go deeper than what seems obvious. Through what seems to be hidden. We need to look more deeply. We are called to embody a deeper inspiration where Christ is living inside of me. |

05 January 2021 St Benedict told his monks, 'Always keep death before your eyes.' We don't talk much about death in the modern world. But what the whole Christian tradition tells us is that if we would become wise we must learn the lesson that we have here 'no abiding city.' [We must hear] what the wise of ages past and present say to us: to have life in focus we must have death in [focus. . .]. Talking about death is hard for the worldly to understand. Indeed the principal fantasy of much worldliness operates out of completely the opposite point of view: not the wisdom of our own mortality but the pure fantasy that we are immortal, beyond physical weakness. |

25 December 2020 The Angels were sign posts who gave directions for the Shepherds to find the baby God. God appeared as a fragile baby, not like the Greek or Roman God’s Thor or Odin who came with power and bolts of lightning. God appears in the unexpected simple child. For most people the child would have looked and acted like any other baby. Yet, the Angels were given a direction which revealed to them the deeper understanding of who the child was. |

23 December 2020 There are many difficulties when people pray. Like when the children have gone to school or like just before we arrive at work. We try and find a point to pray. On the first day, we can pray easily. On the second day, we repeat the first day. The third day our abilities to pray tapers off. On the fourth day we find it very hard. We feel alone. |
|
20 December 2020 Mary was a 13 or 14-year-old girl when the angel invited her to bear God’s son. From an outsider's perspective in the Jewish culture 2024 years ago, it would seem that Mary has committed a great sin. However, God works his most wonderful miracle through what would seem as a sin, in a poor and unmarried girl. |
